Rustic candle decoration

Rustic candle decoration

I love home decor that is made from nature, not only do they look great they don't cost very much to create. Here's my take on a rustic candle decoration.

Step 1

Gather some twigs of varying sizes that are well and truly dry. I am lucky that we rent a house in the middle of a vineyard and the vines have just been pruned. I've been wanting to create some new projects with them and thought a candle would be a great place to start. I want to make some lampshades too... maybe for another tutorial.

Step 2

Measure the height of your candle and cut your twigs to that measurement. It doesn't matter if they have knots in them, it makes for an interesting end result.

Step 3

I then used some jewelry making wire in a gold color to tie the twigs together.

Start at the top end and twist the wire around each twig, then start another row at the lower part of the twigs, so you end up with two rows, as in the photo below.

Step 4

Place the twigs around the outside of the candle and secure by twisting the wire around the two ends until they join together.

Step 4

Download and print the below tag by clicking on the picture. The image will open in a new window and you can save it to your computer. Once its saved you can import it into your preferred image manipulation program and change the size of the image to fit the size of your candle. Once it's printed, cut around the outside of the image and punch a hole in the top for the string to go through.

 Step 5

Cut a piece of string long enough to go around your candle and tie a bow. Tie the string to the top of the candle and through the hole in the top of your tag, so it stays in place.

And that's it, a rustic candle decoration for next to nothing that would make a great decoration for your home or a gift for someone special in your life.

Here are some other candle that I made. You can see the tutorial for the green candle, complete with free digital images by clicking on the below photo.
