Bottle to vase tutorial

Turning a bottle into a vase

My daughter came over for tea one day and brought some wine in this lovely bottle. Once we had enjoyed the wine I couldn't throw away the empty bottle, as it was such a lovely colour.

I held on to it for about 6 months, until now when I decided to turn it into a vase.

Just follow below and I will show you all of the steps I took.

STEP 1

Soak the bottle in warm water for about 20 minutes and the label
should come off very easily.
Turn upside down to remove excess water, then wipe with a tea towel to dry completely.

I decided to leave the collar on the bottle, as the gold colour would go well with the image I wanted to add to the front of the bottle.

 STEP 2

I printed and trimmed an image that I created and I thought it would go well with the lovely teal green colour of the bottle and the golden colour of the collar on the bottle.

The image I used is on the left. I found an old painting that is copy right free and changed the background, added a border and a swirly flourish.

You are free to download and use this image for any art or craft project, or for any other purpose.

Just click on the image and it will open in a new window. You can then save it to your computer and use how you like.

STEP 3

I then used craft glue to glue the image to the outside of the bottle.

STEP 4

Once the new image is dry, I coated it with some water based varnish, to protect it if it got wet.

Note: when coating the printed image be careful not to rub the brush over it too many times in the same area, as the ink can run and create a blurry end result

STEP 5

I then used a hot glue gun and some jute to cover the neck of the bottle.

See close up photo below.

The photo to the right shows the end result.

And to the left is my new vase with some beautiful peacock feathers in it.

It's nearly spring here in South Australia, so I'm looking forward to snipping some beautiful spring flowers from the garden to display in my lovely new vase.
